So my dad bought a lot of flavorings months ago, we played around and made a few bottles and it didn't come out as we expected so they've been sitting on a shelf basically for awhile.
I'd like to revisit DIY and make a good tobacco vape. There's lots of different tobacco flavors in the box, but I have no idea what they taste like. What's the best way to taste the flavorings? Just make a small like 3ml batch of something? What would even be the procedure? 10% flavor and the rest pg vg? Not really sure and haven't read a lot about how people taste, only make the actual recipe. Thanks for any input.
TL;DR What's the best way to taste a flavor without making a big bottle or just diving right into a recipe.
Small test batches. You can mix a 5 ml batch or lower with 1 ml syringes. Once you have a decent idea as to what you like mix bigger amounts. I'm pretty busy so I just mix two 15 ml batches each week with the confidence that I'll tolerate them both and likely enjoy one of them. Start with smaller percentages of flavorings and work your way up. Boring mixes may be boring but still quite vapable.
There are a few methods I've seen floating around for sampling single flavors. I personally like using a syringe or pipette and putting a drop or 2 of flavoring in a small 10 ml bottle of water and tasting the flavor that way. Another method is dipping a clean toothpick into the flavoring and sampling it.
As for flavor combinations (recipes), I don't know if there's a better way than making a small batch (I do 3-5 ml of 70/30, no nic) and test it in a dripper or a tank. It's a pain for testing recipes but sometimes different flavors combine in really unexpected ways. Hope this helps!
I'm sorry if I sound like a crazy person, but when you say add it to water- you then drink it?
With the tooth pick, is it safe to actually taste the high concentrated flavors?
I don't drink the water; I just swirl it around my mouth like mouthwash and spit it out (of course it's probably safe to drink, if that's what you want to do). I can't attest to the safety of the toothpick method (it's mostly a lazier way of tasting, no cleanup), so if you're concerned about safety the water method works mighty fine for DIY purposes.
Ahhh Seriously guys these flavors were (and) are made for human consumption. They didn't make these flavors for e-juice only. We as in Vapor came along and started using these flavors in our e juice. Yes you can Eat, Drink, Ingest these flavors just so long as you don't put nicotine in your samples. The flavos make a great homemade Propel??? Have you ever had a propel?? Its flavored water if you haven't. Hence Flavoring/Water/Sweetener makes down the hatch without vaping!! :-) Goodluck!!
Hey there, this is exactly the reason why we're starting VapeCrafter. Sometimes you don't want to make a full batch or you want to try a bunch of different concentrations, but that might take a lot of time mixing and steeping and cleaning and you don't want to use up all your supplies or buy another flavor you might not have in stock.
