So I created a eJuice recipe website recently and decided to add a pointless karma score for the recipe posters (aka Alchemists). I'm all for feedback & criticism, but please keep it constructive!

I'd really like a profile page where I can enter all of my ingredients on hand, and then query the database of recipes for those which I can make with what I already have. I think there are cooking sites with a similar feature.

It might be a little tedious for you to add all of the available flavors and the user to enter what they have, but I think this would be extremely valuable.

This is a great idea and I will add it. I'm thinking more of a "search by flavour" system where you can enter one or more flavours and get all recipes that contain those flavours (as opposed to a fixed list of flavours in your account as you may purchase new flavours but forget to update your account flavours?).

It kind of needs to be both. And I strongly recommend locking down flavor entry, so that your site doesn't end up like the others, with 17 entries for any given flavor. Makes searching for recipes by flavor a nightmare.

Sure - so I need to run a system that does the following:

  • Validates the flavour entry
  • Links the flavour to a flavour manufacturer (such as TPA)

Right?

If so I will promise to do this too - I want to get it right :)

I like it. When hitting back on browser it always takes you to home page... Might wanna tweak that. This is definitely something I would frequent and use.

I now have a Roadmap for recommended updates. Anything that you want & appears on this roadmap will be carried through to the live site.

Edit: I just want to say a massive thank you for giving such constructive feedback, and not ripping the site apart like wild narwhals!

Immortalized on a roadmap...sweet! I haven't mentioned it in any of my other comments, but feel obligated to say thank you. I've been asking for a "search by on-hand ingredients" recipe site for a while now, and you're the first developer who seems truly interested and committed to making something that actually works. I really appreciate your effort!

Hey, I have added your tweak to the site now (and you're crossed off the roadmap :P). The search by flavours will only really work once new recipes have been added using the new flavour system, so bear that in mind! Thanks for the comments and please keep them coming!

Looks great! Now if you could allow me to add/remove the the flavors that I currently have on hand to my profile, I could search for all recipes I can make with what I already have, right? The search would have to filter out recipes with ingredients I don't have...does that make sense?

Edit: Here's a post from just today where this would be valuable...I could have just sent this guy to your website! Here's another from a while back too.

Also, If you want to be exhaustive with all of the flavor options, here's a pretty good list of all suppliers/vendors. I'd especially like to see One On One Flavors and Nature's Flavors organic extracts added, maybe even DIYFlavorShack too. However, I understand that managing the changes that happen across all these product lines can be like trying to hit a moving target, so adding a new supplier could potentially be an on demand affair. Maybe you just provide a link in your "other links" pull down where your users can request a new supplier or request to add a new flavor(s). Maybe they could facilitate the process...you could ask them to provide a list in a certain format that you can just plug into your database. I'm really starting to get out in the weeds here, but maybe something to consider in the future.

I really love the direction your heading and think this can shape up to be the best recipe website around!

I was playing around, punching in some of my recipes this morning, and I realized there's a potential nice to have feature. With most of the available calculators, you're punching in info for your own use. With this, everyone is punching in things so everyone else can see them. So, if I'm using 48 mg/ml nicotine, and another user is using 27 mg/ml nicotine, the site doesn't handle it very elegantly.

It would be cool if there was a profile level "My nicotine base is X mg/ml" setting, and the site shows all recipes with that setting taken into account.

On a similar note, it would be cool if there was a profile level "I vape at x/y PG/VG ratio" setting. Just so the site could be a total one-stop mix station companion.

I imagine the profile level settings would be less than simple to implement, but I think that would make the user experience so much smoother on the site.

Actually whilst doing some recent work for the "fixed flavours" system, I was thinking about this... really all you need to do is get the percentages for the flavours. The nicotine content & PG/VG ratios could be an account setting, and all the recipes you view (when logged in) auto calculate to your settings? (i.e. 27mg base, 12mg target nicotine and 70/30 PG/VG mix)? What do you think?

That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. You'd have to account for users wanting to vape at max VG, when there's 20% Pg base flavors. But that's the idea.

Why I love this site

Sorting by rating is something I hope will come with time. The more active visitors, the more people will rate. You can already sort by rating on eJuice Recipes, but there's not many rated yet. Feel free to sign up and rate (you'll even earn pointless karma for doing so!).

Just for emphasis. Being able to type in all flavors you have and brings you back a list of recipes that include those flavors.

I don't even understand how this is intended to work as currently functioning..

I don't see any brands, just names of flavors like "Watermelon", not "Watermelon TPA"

How is anyone expected to replicate those recipes without such needed information?

http://e-juice-recipes.com/recipe/america-s-5th/

Edit: I see now some pages have it and others do not.

You need to make it required that every user who posts a recipe includes the brand and you need to have a set and required format for the names, as others have posted.

We need Watermelon TFA, not Water melon TPA and WaterMelon (TFA) and Watermelon (FlavorApprentice) etc etc.

Find out however you think works best for a naming convention and stick with it :)

This is on the roadmap and will be integrated into the site very soon. I'm waging my way through 1500 flavours to import into the website (from 16 manufacturers).

When I go to save a recipe the top 1/2 of the pop up comment? box is cut off.

Thanks for reporting this - I have added it to the Roadmap.
