Hey guys
Finally an update from me! I've implemented mixing by weight on e-liquid-recipes.com.
You can enable it by going to your profile, and drops should get replaced by grams.
Read the news for details!
Also flavor details are now visible even if you're not logged in (though I don't know why you wouldn't log in) :-D
.
Happy mixing and vaping!
If you don't mind if I ask... how are you people mixing by weight, exactly?
i basically do this
but i attempt to get the spec gravity of all of my flavors instead of doing 1ml=1g. if the specific gravity cannot be found then i use 1ml=1g.
More or less the same as /u/billgarmsarmy does it. SG of flavorings being slightly less important to me even though I use flavorings from several companies. I'm not delving in to super complex and/or layered juices yet so I don't personally see the need for super tight tolerances.
As /u/billgarmsarmy writes.
Bottle on scale. TAR. Check how much weight we need, slowly pour/drop until weight reached. TAR. Repeat until all ingredients are done.
It only needs to be super precise if you make very small batches. When you make larger batches, 0.02 or 0.05 g doesn't make much difference :)
It's incredibly easy and much less messy!
I suppose my problem comes in do to the fact none of my TFA 4oz+ bottles come with squeezy nozzles :(
Given the change in flavor caused by time (steep/cure/whatever or just minutes - first vs second impression), build, tank/drip/device, wattage, vape-tongue/food/drink, time of day, well I guess hate coconut today, OMG MOAR coconut, memory, emotional state, etc. I have a hard time justifying being so precise, even as much as I enjoy precision/measuring/math/recording/tweaking. It seems to me that only very small batches would benefit, and that batches that small wouldn't last long enough for a full experience/appreciation of the flavor anyway.
I tried too long to be exacting and getting "I think it tasted better last time" before running a test. Drip this. Ok - now drip this (same bottle). Oh, the first one had a stronger banana flavor you preferred? Try this one then (same bottle). The banana in that one tastes off/fake/weird? Hmm... thanks for the input. Here, keep that first one you liked. Yes, its the right one? Much more natural banana taste? Enjoy.
I have much better luck now with giving someone a bottle, then letting them try it on their own later and checking back in a few days for general impression.
I seem to enjoy mixing more when I don't involve other people/testers. But when I make something good, I want to share it. These reactions start making me "notice" differences in batches I'd have sworn were staying consistent, and not notice differences in batches that I intentionally altered and knew were moving closer to "perfection". I'm finding most of my day-to-day juice is less and less precise, and only aiming to be vape-able, and that I'm becoming more tolerant in what I consider vape-able. Its a rare day now that I feel inspired to reach for those perfect blends.
I adjusted the PG weight to 1.036, VG to 1.261 and vodka/pga to 0.938 g/ml. Flavors in PG remain 1 g/ml, VG 1.16 but I changed flavor in "other" to 0.98 g/ml
Actually, now that I think about it, that's probably a feature request in total. Create a table of flavors (can't tell you how many times i've seen duplicated flavors when I'm building something) and let people comment the specific gravity of it. If enough people comment the same specific gravity, that goes into the flavor description, and people can use it to mix by weight using the calculator.
I have no clue how this would work in terms of actual programming, but it'd be amazing to have as a feature.
It is not possible at this time to set the gravity of a flavor. It is something that I intend to implement at some point. My thought right now, is that you manage this in your stash.
There are another obstacle that I'd rather fix soon, and that is the duplicate flavors that you mention. It's getting to be a problem, even with the regular cleanups that I do. We currently have almost 9000 flavors in the database, which is waaaaaay too many.
