Did I over react?
submitted over 11 years ago by bluegrasslover

So, I was at a campground this weekend for the holiday. Lots of campers sell things there kind of like a big yard sale. Noticed someone selling eliquid and starter kits so I walked over to check it out. The person selling the eliquid wasn't there at the time. I noticed he had all of his mixing flavors and nic out on the table. 100mg nic, no safety cap just sitting there on the table for anyone to pick up. The vendor returned and we chatted a bit. I offered a suggestion that maybe it wasn't the best idea to just leave 100mg nic just laying around (there are tons of kids at this campground). Just a kid picking it up could make them sick if there were nic on the outside of the container, right (seriously, couldn't that make a small child sick to get 100mg nic on their skin)? His response was that you have to be 18 to try it. No, dude, that's not what I'm talking about I said. It's right there for anyone to grab, lick, drink, or whatever. Am I making this out to be more of an issue than it actually is?

You didn't overreact, what he did was incredibly shortsighted and stupid.

I don't know why he didn't just mix everything beforehand, at home, in a sterile environment. If I saw someone mixing juice outside I wouldn't even consider buying their product.

I've noticed that DIY is becoming a bit of a thing at vape shops. At least locally.

You didn't over react. Leaving that stuff out unattended is completely irresponsible.

I however don't really care if someone is mixing juice outside or outside of clean room standards for the right circumstances. I mean, if you're out on a camping/yard sale type weekend and someone asks "hey man, can you make me a pineapple tobacco flavor? I really love pineapple", why the fuck not, right? I wouldn't mix that way on a regular basis but given the right circumstances, sure.

I don't remember the name only that it will be in Greenville, NC.

Would he have acted the same way with strychnine? Both have the same end result when handled by unknowing people.

It's especially dangerous if you had no source of clean water. As long as you can wash it off you hands with the quickness you would be OK, but outside in the woods? Not to mention the quality of his nic is quickly degrading with the cap off...

Not at all, OP. Lot's of people don't know that you can get nicotine poisoning from skin contact.

I would have purchased all of his nic just to prevent someone from vaping it straight.

What a responsible adult. I'm kind of an ass, so I would have taken the nicotine (which, in all honesty, doesn't need to be out for more than a few minutes while adding to flavor mixes, no reason to just leave it out) and placed it in another container until he came back. If he gave me shit about it, I would respectfully inform him that he was being an irresponsible jackass that was potentially putting someone's health at risk.

EDIT: Oh yeah, OP, you didn't overreact.

He wasn't setting any records in the IQ department, but, were there open fires at the campground? Snakes? Bees? Was everyone wearing minimum SPF-50 sunscreen?

I would, nicely, suggest you might have, just a little.

If you screamed at him for leaving a bottle of poison out, I would have considered it not an over-reaction. This has almost nothing to do with vaping, and everything to do with just pure 100% human common sense.

You did the right thing. I think it's the vape community to hold dumbass people like this responsible. Those against vaping will/do use the action of one to affect us all.

No that could kill a kid. people need to be safer with their shit, 100mg nic is poison.
