Here's what I got:
Pear (TFA): 6%
Strawberry Ripe (TFA): 5%
Banana Ripe (TFA): 3% (@ 20 drops/ml)
Banana Cream (TFA): 0.5% (@ 20 drops/ml)
Honey Dew (TFA): 1%
Juicy Peach (TFA): 0.5%
Marshmallow (TFA): 1%
Sweet Cream (TFA): 1%
Sour (20% in PG) (TFA): 1%
Now I don't normally try to make clones, though I was tinkering with the popular Honey Peary clone recipe to better fit my tastes and noticed something about it that reminded me of 'nana Cream, so I decided to work from there. Who knows how close this is to what /u/_bombies actually uses (I only have a modest collections TFA flavorings now) but it's tasty and I haven't really seen any attempts posted.
I ran out of the real 'nana Cream over a week ago so my memory of its taste might be off but my mix close enough to fill the 'nana Cream void in my lungs without creating a new void in my wallet.
It's alright after it's mixed but I'd recommend curing it (I use the hot water method since I'm impatient). It's clear when mixed and gets to that yellow color later (this pic is just after about 40 min in hot water, the bottle never really lasts long enough among 3 vapers to see if gets to that deeper yellow the real 'nana Cream has).
This recipe is only like my 5th iteration of the mix so it can be thought of as a good starting point for further experimentation. Enjoy!
Edit: For those who want to experiment with this, I'll leave some of my notes from when I was working on this.
- I started with Honey Dew at 3%, but that was way too pronounced so I dropped it down a bunch so it was more of an added note. Haven't tried eliminating it completely. Same with the Juicy Peach.
- I've tried adjusting the percentages of the pear and the strawberry between 4% and 6% and this is the combo I like best. I think the pear helps the banana have that banana runts taste.
- I haven't really changed the ripe banana percentage, I liked what I got the first go around. The banana cream helps support the ripe banana flavor.
- For the creams, I tried it with just Marshmallow, Marshmallow and Sweet Cream, and Marshmallow with French Vanilla. French Vanilla was too custardy. Sweet Cream improved the mix compared to just marshmallow.
- Sour helps add tang to the banana flavor, and I pretty much put it in all my fruit mixes anyway.
Nice work!
This is a good sign. Going to mix once I get more vg in later today. Edit: Just mixed without marshmallow or sour because I personally dislike them, and the bottle got super cloudy. The taste though is alright, definitely unique, although not the nana cream I remember.
Yeah my mix is a tad cloudy right after mixing but after curing it clears up and turns yellow like in the pic above. Also, I'm usually not a fan of anything with pear right after mixing and pretty much wait for the color change before I actually vape it.
The pear is the essential element mixed with a Banana Cream flavor. All about dat Isoamyl Acetate. I use TFA Banana Cream but I think Bombies uses LA – I don't like the food coloring in LA's version and this recipe turns just as yellow as it ages.
My recipe's a little simpler, give it a stab:
Surrogate Grandma
- TFA Banana Cream - 6%
- CAP Sweet Strawberry - 3%
- TFA Pear - 5%
- FA Pomegranate - 2%
- 10% Citric Acid Solution - 1% or ~1 drop per mL
Like I said, I think the real thing is LA Banana Cream, and some pomegranate other than FA. I like the FA though because it has a deeper flavor. Sub out ingredients as you see fit.
Very cool I'll give it a try. I'll see how it works with TFA pomegranate. Also, I like your juice's name.
Edit: I just looked at the description for LA Banana Cream and I agree based on that it would be closer to the real thing. I've got a giant bottle of ripe banana and just a small sample of TFA Banana Cream, which probably influenced my decisions on the flavor percentages there. But I'll try your percentages and see how I like it.
Haha, thanks.
TFA pomegranate is definitely lighter in flavor. The FA has a nice bitter element that's like a glass of dark, plain pomegranate juice – it's fantastic. If you've ever had Adirondack juice, imagine their sort of characteristic "woodsy" or herbal tone.
TFA has some great flavors (the Pear is unmatched) but I keep trying the FA equivalents and I'm blown away each time. Their White Peach is magical.
I do look forward to trying other flavor vendors. I'm just a few months into diy and with all the flavor options it still can be a bit overwhelming. TFA is definitely a good start (especially if ordering from wizard labs) and my process has been getting a bunch of small samples, creating some promising mixes, and then getting those flavors in larger sizes. Again, I'll seriously consider your recommendations.
Just got in my LA Banana Cream and it tastes pretty much like Banana Laffy Taffy @15% lol. I hate banana candy... but for some reason I can't stop vaping this stuff. Go figure lol.
also, it has yellow #5 in it... which Im pretty positive cant be good for vaping. Ah well... still better than smoking I guess.
im going to give this a shot. have you updated this at all since this posting? I got some LA Banana Cream, what % would you recommend?
Yeah, the recipe I originally posted isn't even close.
I'd recommend the LA Banana Cream anywhere from 4-10% depending on how strong you like your flavor. 7-8% is more or less the sweet spot.
Thought honey peary was pretty simple. Equal parts TFA honeydew and pear, half that amount strawberry. I make that concentrate then add 20-25% to a mix.
There wasn't anything wrong with the Honey Peary, I kinda got bored of the one from the clone thread and wanted to change it up to make it more novel to me.
For sure. That recipe pretty close to yours?
I think what I use is:
Pear (TFA): 6%
Strawberry (TFA): 5%
Honey Dew (TFA): 3%
Juicy Peach (TFA): 3%
The honey dew itself is pretty strong so I don't like going higher than 3%. The recipe from the clone thread has Apricot from LorAnns instead of Juicy Peach (though someone suggested the peach) but I didn't like that one as much.
Next time I mix HP I might add the Marshmallow, Sweet Cream, and Sour that I use in this 'nana cream recipe to round out the flavor. I'm not really concerned anymore about replicating another juice exactly but rather to find ways to simply make a good tasting juice.
Banana cream already has a crazy banana runts flavor to me, I don't see how pear would increase that at all and TFA Pear is also pretty strong and I wouldn't be using it anywhere near that high in a Banana focused juice.
Also banana ripe is bad for certain plastics and kills syringes so I would try upping the Banana Cream and getting rid of the banana ripe, but that's just me.
The pear thing I really don't get, TFA Pear is very strong to me at 6% and would overwhelm and just the thought of that mixed with pear doesn't sound tasty to me at all.
I haven't tried the juice you're trying to clone, but it's mainly Banana yes?
I think the name 'nana Cream is a bit of a misnomer. It's kinda hard to describe the flavor. It has that banana runt taste but it doesn't feel like the focus. It's also not that creamy. It's a pretty unique flavor
Unless he means something else by " 'Nana ", I think that name is just there to confuse than to actually mean something.
Nana cream, like Grandma's cream? Lol. Not sure what that would mean.
But yeah a juice that's named Nana Cream and doesn't focus much on Banana or Cream is kinda odd to me, definitely not a name I would pick unless I meant Nana as in Grandma for some reason.
After seeing this I think I will have to order some 'Nana Cream.. I was under the assumption that it was just a creamy banana, which I have been working on for awhile and have a pretty solid recipe to fit my needs. But seeing these other fruit flavors has me really intrigued. I have all those flavors, so I'm going to whip it up tonight... and pay the bombies shop a visit.
I have all these coming in the mail, but I forgot to order Ripe Banana :s
I don't really want to make a TPA order for 1 flavor as shipping is pretty expensive.
does anyone know what % of LA Banana Cream I should use to get 3.5% of equal TFA flavoring?
edit: if anyone wants to try it, I suggest around 4%-5% of LA Banana Cream. I found 2% to be too weak and i tried adding a few drops to it. It's probably at around 3-3.5% total, but is still a bit too weak. Other than that, it's so close to Nana Cream.
I've never tried it but I would start lower maybe at like 2% that way you could increase gradually to taste. Also I just realized that I measure the banana flavors by drops (arbitrarily at 20/ml) from a disposable pipette since they destroy syringes so those percentages are still approximate. I'll edit that into the original post.
So I just mixed up a small batch of this. Currently vaping it in an aqua with dual coils at around 0.4ohms. It's really tasty! I've never had bombies nana cream so I can't compare but I thoroughly enjoy this recipe. I've only steeped it while shaking periodically for about fifteen minutes. I'm curious to what it taste like after a longer steep.
Just made this last night. it was delicious. However I feel like a different banana flavor and less pear should be used. Anyone want to chime in? Looking for ideas to fine tune this. Thanks!
I just got some more of the real 'nana Cream compare (I made this recipe a couple weeks after I last had it and was basing the flavor off my memory). I definitely think mine is missing some of the candy and fruity nuances but overall has a similar vape experience to me. As someone else said in this thread, bombies likely uses LA banana cream, which I haven't tried yet. The pear may not be at the perfect percentage but I would say it's still essential to the mix. I probably will start trying different fruit flavors in addition which could possibly change the perception of the banana flavor as well.
As a guy who also makes juice, I'd never be a dick to anyone who tried to copy my mixes. It's flattering. I still wouldn't be like "yeah, you're totally on the right track to the recipe that I sell".
Yeah I don't expect bombies to confirm or deny anything (though I appreciate his support of people trying). I personally started diy primarily to save some money but it eventually evolved into a hobby similar to cooking and clone recipes were the starting point for me. If it starts discussion on how flavors work together and helps people progress with their juice then it's still worthwhile. I try to make it less to copy a juice exactly and more to make a a good juice in general.
Late to the party but.. where'd you get the bottle in the picture? Looks nice.
