Do any of your juices taste "real"?
submitted over 11 years ago by NewbSaysRawr

I love DIY'ing, even though I only have 5-6 flavors. I am making it without nicotine, since I didn't have the money to buy any... Maybe that's the problem.

My juices taste alright, I mean they are kinda good, but they are lacking the "wow". Pick up a bottle of snake oil or mother's milk, you get that "wow" factor to it. It tastes professional, real, not just good but DAMN. And I don't see that. I don't really have money to go buying $80 worth of different flavors and PG/VG, I maybe could get a few, but shipping kills me.

Maybe it's because I have accent flavors and no base flavors? Here's what I have:

All TFA:

*Honeydew

*strawberry(ripe)

*juicy peach

*bavarian cream

*creme de menth

*double chocolate (clear)

*koolada 10%

*EM crystals (dissolved at 10%)

If I'm going to order say 10 flavors, what would you suggest to really get it going for me?

Same here. Though I am relatively new to DIY-ing my juice, I've come up with pretty good flavors that could pass as my daily vape. However, I really do notice the lack of a "wow" factor in my mixes. Still, I am not discouraged as I am saving a lot of money and my friends and co-workers who have tried my blends find it quite good.

I think a lot of wow juices are mixing a more body flavor with a more aroma flavor, giving a more full flavor experience. I quit using em, I pretty much use marshmallow instead. Em simply doubles existing sweetness rather than adding actual sweetness doesnt it? Ive been rice steeping a bit, I like it better than water. Ive even been like rice steeping. Putting in the freezer and rice steeping again. I assume this temperature range back and forth could speed up the process, no science here just intuition/witchcraft. Ive heard double choc dark is a more rich flavor. Some premium juice just has a ton of flavoring at the right percentage. I would order peanut butter... marshmallow... common flavor additions from browsing tfa recipes... or diff flavor vendors altogether although all tfa is all you need to learn imo. I am still a relativenoob myself

I've been making TVC Honey Pearry clone for the last two weeks. It tastes real and honestly I cannot tell the difference from authentic TVC.

Using only TFA:

  • Pear 8%
  • Honeydew 5%
  • Strawberry Ripe 5%
  • VG 60mg/ml Nic Base 20%
  • USP VG 62%

Above recipe makes 30ml at 12mg/ml nicotine concentration. Using a Russian 91% and a Kayfun Lite Plus (identical coil/wick build) to compare the flavors, can't tell the difference.

I just got my first-ish job, and I'll probably be ordering flavors before too long. Really I'm looking at ~10 flavors from WL, 500mL PG (got like 100mlPG/350-400VG left), a sentinel m16 clone, and a tricoil RDA (I forget what it's called, it has triangle airflow holes and "flavor control"). I'd like to get a tank system too, for the convenience and I'd like to get nicotine solution, but on minimum wage and college coming up, I gotta work with what I'm given haha.

I'm looking at watermelon, pear, marshmallow, graham cracker, cinnamon red hots, jamaican rum, ry4 double, and coconut extra mainly. I love the shit out of some red hots candy though, so I might just order a big ass bottle of it from TFA until I have more money.

Research Inawera and also FlavorArt and stop using EM

I've had some flavours that end up being far superior with EM. Some flavours though, really get a nasty case of flavour death with it after aging. It all depends on the mix.

why stop using EM?

People say it mutes/dulls flavours. I don't notice it though.

For what purpose are you using it. Just try a few mixes without the EM and judge the difference on a new coil/wick

I am far from creating my own recipes or substituting/subtracting ingredients at this point. I have just started with following along on clone recipes (still haven't been able to master Halo's Malibu). So far what I've found in the recipes I have used with EM though is that they have much more of a wet mouth feel than those that do not. I thought for the longest time that it was the harshness of the PG/VG I am using but no other internet searches state anything of the sort with the brand I have. But I will certainly try what you're suggesting later down the road as I am a flavor chaser but don't really have a sweet tooth.

Add in a little TFA pear and TFA apricot, and you can have a really decent honey pearry clone.

How are you steeping your juice? What is your vg pg radio

Often I use 70/30, 60/30, or at least 50:50 PG/VG. I actually bought less PG anticipating more VG use. And I'll often just set them on my desk, drip a couple times a day. After a week some of them are a little better, some of them just taste cheap and generic.

I would look at the recipes in the side bar, decide what kind of flavors you like, and order the flavors that go with those recipes - it's the easiest way to start. Then if something else looks like it might be something you'd like, order that and give it a try.

What % are your flavors? I mix single flavors @ 15% (Going against what people have said on here) and the Bavarian Cream is awsome after 3 or 4 days steeping. My Cinnimon Red Hots tastes FAAARRR better than any juice vendor here. So much so that someone who said they don't like Cinnimon Flavors at all, actually thought mine was AWSOME. Green Apple is also a mouth popper. So yeah, what % is your juice?

I tend to mix 8-15% depending on what I use. 3-5% for bavarian cream and strong flavors like that, weaker flavors and fruits I tend to use 7-10%.

So you're mixing your Cinnamon Red Hot (TFA?) at 15% with nothing else added? I've only tried 10% and while I can taste it, it's not in-your-face strong which is what I like.

Correct, TFA @ 15%. I am currently out now but have more on the way. the last concentrate I ordered had PG in it. This batch will have Ethyl Alchohol. So we'll see if there is a difference in taste or not. My base mix was 70PG/30VG with 12Mg Nicotine (Nicotine being PG based as well)

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I will mix a 15% batch this afternoon (PG based flavoring) @ a 70/30 ratio. I usually mix at 60/40, but ... so many variables, so little time.

Please let us know if there's any difference with the alcohol based flavoring.

What recipe have you tried? From what I've read, the premium juices tend to have more flavor ingredients (5 or more). A juice with just one or two ingredients will taste more like cheap candy

I don't have ingredients for much. I've tried juicy strawberry (juicy peach + ripe strawberry), mint choco frappé (double chocolate + creme de menthe + coolada + bavarian cream), and a couple others. I really do hope more flavors wil help

I can't figure out ripe strawberry at all. What percent do you guys use?

I tried it 8% with 7% double chocolate to get a chocolate covered strawberry. At first it was ok with a musty aftertaste, not really chemical-y but just that semi-bitter warm air feel. After a week of steeping, it's now more chocolate than strawberry, but it's still there and the mustiness is gone :)

My chocolate covered strawberry was 8% CAP sweet strawberry, 8% TFA Ripe Strawberry, 2-3% CAP Double Chocolate.

I find that it's a pretty good chocolate covered strawberry. I haven't worked on that one for a while since I'm out of Strawberry, though.

TFA Strawberry Ripe is my ADV flavor. (tho I did notice its possibly been reformulated since the first few times I got it from WL, seems a little muted this time around... who knows).

I use it like this:

> Dat strawberrah:

>10% strawberry ripe

>3% sour 20% (I kinda back off on this now to maybe 1-2 drops. too much sour gives me mouth ulcers like eating a whole box of sour patch kids candy)

>1% sweetener

>1-2 drops AP per 10ml(on my phone but I think it's spelled acetyl pyruvate... The >nutty toasty molecule)

>(Optional) ~2-3% koolada or menthol. Menthol gives a nice minty cold, koolada >keeps it just cold strawberry. Both are awesome.

I use a VG nic base and top up with VG and the strawberry still pokes through in a very nice way. If you use the AP, you might want to go very light the first time, its there to simulate the 'strawberry seeds' note in a real, fresh, local strawberry.

Lately I have been adding a few drops of either TFA Bavarian Cream or TFA Vanilla Custard to this recipe in trying to achieve a strawberry dessert flavor, but that is a big work in progress (im going for a Alice in Vapeland "Zombie Apocalypse" clone)
