The (very late) May Recipe Thread
submitted over 11 years ago by InertiaCreepingJust another Moderator

Lol, whoops, it's May already, is it?

Makes me so happy to see the /r/diy_ejuice community blossoming, we are on track to him 200,000 page views this month! (Holy ejuice batman!!)

This month I'll leave you with two tips that most people struggle to come to terms with:

1- Sweetener- for the most part- is not needed in your juice.

Don't be tempted to add EM (Ethyl Maltol/Cotton Candy) or Sucrose to your recipe, you'll find that without any added sweetener your juice will taste 100% cleaner and your coils will not gunk up nearly as much as "commercial" juice that uses sweetener. Most flavours are sweet enough. If you feel like

2- Sometimes less is more.

Don't be tempted to always hit that "magical" 20% flavouring percentage.

A flavour might taste too wear at 5%, perfect at 8%, then at 15% the flavour will disappear again.

When building a recipe, get to know the individual components first, and try to blend your juice so that there is a main component, and smaller flavour notes. Check out the recipe threads in the sidebar for some starter percentages to work from.

Anyway, I hope you all are having a good month so far (Warming up in the Northern Hemisphere I hope!), I'll see you all around the sub!

Here is a mix I made up based on Grandmaster.

I love it.

GMASTA 10% TFA Banana Cream 3% TFA Caramel 6% TFA Peanut butter 1% EM 2% TFA Marshmallow 1% TFA Whipped Cream 3% TFA Graham Cracker Clear 2% TFA Vanilla Swirl (or cap VC)

I know it's a pretty flavor heavy, but I think it's tasty as fuck.

Post any feedback!

Man, this is seriously amazing! I made it last night and it was really good fresh but after leaving it in an ultrasonic cleaner for a while and trying it again, I'm blown away. Fantastic recipe, thanks so much!

Glad you liked it! It has been my ADV for a couple weeks now. Tastes amazing after a week cure.

I was so close to making 30ml straight away but only made 10ml. Gonna have to make a huge batch and let it sit in a cupboard for a week. Just awesome flavor.

Have you ever messed around with any chocolate flavors with this recipe? Just curious, it's beyond great as is but chocolates have been tough for me to master and your mix seems like it *might go well with some of them as an alternate take.

Reporting back. This recipe is very good. Nice complex mix of flavors. I don't personally like Banana, but this is amazing.

Thanks for the work you put into it.

On a side note I used Caramel Candy instead of regular Caramel. It adds a nice caramel taste on exhale that lingers for a bit. Quite nice. I can't really taste the Peanut Butter individually, but it does blend well.

I kind of want to let this steep and see how it tastes, but I don't think that's going to happen, this is really good.

Thanks for this great recipe! I made 10 mils last night and it's almost gone! I just made up two 30 mil. bottles. In the crock pot now. My new ADV!

I just ordered all the flavors this will be my most complex mix to date... I will report back by Friday night how it turns out. Do you have any recommendations on steep times?

I mean, I vape it right away. After a week it really shines though.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I have gone through 60ml of this and all my friends keep bugging me about making some for them. This is definitely one of my top 5 juices

Yeah, this recipe is amazing, i tweaked it a little because of what i had available (used toasted marshmallow in place of regular and vanilla bean in place of swirl) and changed it to be 20% flavoring and its out of control, i literally cant stop vaping it. Good work man, good work.

No Name Currently:

All TFA Flavors
6% Strawberry (not ripe)
6% Juicy Peach
6% Blueberry Wild

Really powerful fruit blend. Can almost taste the juicyness to it. I just can't come up with a name haha. It's great though.

Just made this 2 days ago and it rocks! Gonna try 0.5-1.0% koolada next batch since I love a bit of cooling with my fruits. I also added some TFA Sour to it (1%)

I will share with you some of my flavor blends. These are made to be max VG juices so flavor will very with your PG/VG blend. I have many more, but I still hold out that the FDA regulations may not be horrible and that I can some day start up my own juice label. For now I will remain a minimum wage earning, college graduate.

We should talk about tea. It's been my focus for several months now (lemonades previously). What are you testing them on? The ratios seem kinda high.

Do you have dragonfruit? Try adding 1-2% to your favorite mix. You shouldn't taste it, but it should brighten the mix and act as a sweetener. Juicy peach at a similar percentage (<3%) will do the opposite. It brings out a dry tea note on the back end.

Anyhow, if you like tea and are working on them, I'd be happy to share notes. I'm not looking to sell, just share. I want thousands of badass recipes at my fingertips and the only way to get there is to open source it.

I'd like to talk about Teas... Been working on one for months. keep changing the flavors, looking for the right ones... haven't been able to get that flavor lightbulb go off in my head lol

EDIT: in fact.... http://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/261um9/tea/

Sorry that I didn't respond to this sooner. The concentrations are high bevause I am a flavor fiend and it was made for max VG while giving the flavor of a 50/50 blend. All flavors except for Clouded are vaped in a Kayfun Light Plus. While that may seem high in a Kayfun or Dripping, not everyone is using that equipment. My mother a girlfriend both prefer using iClear 16 Ds. The airflow is minimal so higher flavor concentrates are key to keep them off analogues. Feel free to post revisions.

1 points

by Munkers801over 11 years ago

I made your Green Peach tea in a 50\50 mix no nicotine yet. I am digging the taste on the exhale, but I will see how the flavor blend after a 1 week steep. Thanks for turning me onto the tea idea.

1 points

by Boredsecurityguardover 11 years ago

The exhale definetly has more peach. The inhale reminds me of lipton's green tea. Also, the smell reminds a lot of people of cat pee. I didnt get that, but I also knew what I was vaping while others didn't. It is fun stuff.

EDIT

I also stopped adding the coconut candy since TFA added that it does contain custard notes. It is also the reason why I added the french vanilla/vanilla swirl alternatives to my recipes. I left bavarian cream because that how the blend was originally.

Thanks again for sharing. My wife is going to love it even more than I do.

I've Gotta try this! This was one of my first recipe attempts, but I was using Banana Cream, Strawberry Cream and Ripe Banana. It was overly banana and couldn't get it to work out so I gave up. French vanilla and Ripe strawberry will be in my next flavor order!

by TrupacShakurover 11 years agoMixologist

Less is more when it comes to flavor is something I definitely learned in my first month so far. I now try to keep it at 10% flavor max, unless it a really light flavor.

These are the first flavors I've submitted so far since they're the first I'd actually buy.

(All TFA flavors)

Choco 'Nilla Swirl:

•Vanilla Swirl 5% •Chocolate 3% • Bavarian Cream 1% •Graham Cracker 1%

A nice sweet dessert vape. Made a 10ml bottle last night and it was good, tried some more earlier today and ended up making a 30ml bottle.

Honey Pear:

•Pear 5% •Honeydew 3% •Strawberry 3%

This has been my adv since I started mixing. Very vapable flavor that I don't get sick of. It's no Honey Pearry clone but I've absolutely begun to prefer this flavor over the original.

Also I try to use the least amount of flavoring as possible while still getting a good, strong taste. I usually drip pretty low ohms so these juices have always been plenty enough flavor for me. I also try to keep my mixes as close to 90/10 vg/pg, so if vg/pg ratio isn't an issue to you, you may want to up the flavor percentages.

Edit to format correctly.

This is in April's thread but I'm hoping I can get more input here, maybe someone could point me to a better white chocolate flavoring because I think that's what's missing.

Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream v1

Cakestone (Cake Flavor Base) (wink wink DIYer reference)

30% Flavorwest Yellow Cake

30% TFA Vanilla Cupcake

25% TFA Bavarian Cream

15% TFA Cotton candy

Remember to shake vigorously to combine flavorings

10% Cakestone

5% TFA Strawberry

1% TFA White Chocolate

1 points

by Ryuuzaki_Lover 11 years agoMixologist

Can I use EM for the Cotton Candy in the Cakestone mix? I have Cotton Candy (Circus) and I think that has another flavor added in, so I don't think that will work.

1 points

by testaccount54over 11 years ago

Yes, it has to be cotton candy, you can use EM but i'm not sure of the ratio, if you find out how much EM is used in TFA CC you can just replicate that.

PS: for v2 of cakestone, the Bav. Cream is reduced to 10% and marshmallow is included at 15%, it gives it a more neutral creamy flavor.

1 points

by Ryuuzaki_Lover 11 years agoMixologist

Nice I'll have to try that tomorrow. I think TFA had the percentage of EM in Cotton Candy somewhere on their site.

My only 2 recipes that I like since getting started. All flavoring is TPA. I add the flavoring and the nic the rest is VG for me in case that makes a difference.

Yellowish Snow!

  • Pineapple 10%

  • Juicy Peach 5%

  • Pear 4%

My Version of HoneyPeary. I have never tried the real stuff, so do not use thinking its a clone!

  • Pear 6%

  • Strawberry (ripe) 3%

  • Pineapple 3%

  • Honeydew 1%

Still looking for a Bamskilicous clone for Venom / Antidote or even anything with a close flavor profile. I am 6 batches into Antidote and all I have succeeded in is making bitter garbage literally.

You really can't go wrong with any recipe that contains TFA Juicy Peach :_

1 points

by DoubleSuitedAKJ10over 11 years ago

Knowing that I like the fruit flavors, tend to lean toward the sweeter side and don't really like the creamy or savory stuff.

Any recipes with Juicy Peach that you would recommend I mix up on my next mixing day?

I just made this - it's already good and vapeable, still a little strong since it's fresh - I suspect after about a week it will be SUPER good! Will revisit and report in about a week.

I made a few other recipes that I'll post after I try them if they are good.

Edit: I typed the wrong ingredient before. And yes, this is pretty coconutty.

So I was playing around with making a fruit - cream base (like milkstone, but fruity) and needed to test it out. Recipes follow, would like to get a little feedback.

All flavors TFA

FruitStone - fruit/ cream base >25% PG

>25% Irish Cream

>20% Sweet Cream

>10% Vanilla Swirl

>10% Strawberries & Cream

>5% Orange Cream

>5% Banana Cream

Verucca ' s Tears

>4% Blueberry Extra

>4% Blueberry Wild

>6% Strawberry

>3% FruitStone (see above)

>2 drops per 10 ml of Sour

Dragon's Tears (my 4th version of this mix. My favorite so far) >8% Dragon Fruit

>6% Strawberry

>3% Fruitstone

>2 drops per 10 ml of Sour

Edit: formatting.

Here is a recipe I've been tweaking a bit. It's very nice and I just made another batch.

Maori Marshmallow

  • 12% tpa marshmallow
  • 3% tpa toasted marshmallow
  • 3% tpa kiwi double
  • 0.6% tpa whipped cream
  • 0.3% em 10%
  • 0.3% tpa lemon

It's a slightly tart kiwi with a nice fluffy marshmallow. I find it gives a stout th at first, but smooths out after a couple vapes. It's good after a couple hour speed aging.

If anyone knows of a good way to smooth out the th from the marshmallow, lmk.

I have two that turned out pretty darn good. They need a week to age and settle in because they are awful at first, but now really good and refreshing.

KEY LIME POPCICLE - I don't taste the graham cracker in this one, it tastes like a key lime popcicle to me.

7% TFA Key Lime

4%TFA Graham Cracker Clear

5% TFA Vanilla Swirl

ORANGE CREAMCICLE

12% TFA Orange Cream

7% TFA Vanilla Swirl

4% TFA Sweet Cream

Honeycot

9% TFA Honey Dew 6% TFA Apricot

This juice still has some tuning needed, I'm thinking about adding some sort of creamy element to it.

1 points

by thag_you_very_buchover 11 years ago

I've been lazy and haven't reordered my main flavors so I've been using some of my leftovers. This mix has turned out pretty good and is really sweet, almost candy like, with no additional sweetener (I stopped using it in all my mixes).

Raspberry Pom

TFA Pomegranate 10%
FA Raspberry 4%

Mixed it 50/50 at 6mg nicotine. I vaped it fresh and it was fine, but I was sick so my taste was definitely off. After 4 days where I can taste it proper (for the most part) it's definitely gotten better.

1 points

by whazzisover 11 years ago

I just whipped this up, its very interesting. (Mixed at 6mg nic)

7% blackcurrant (TFA)

7% blackberry (TFA)

3% chocolate mint (FW)

0.5% vanilla custard (CAP)

I call it black-tarberry

Would love some feedback seeing as how this juice has confuddled my buds.

What does tfa and all those other abbreviations stand for??

1 points

by st5kover 11 years ago

TFA is The Flavor Apprentice, which is a brand/manufacturer of flavoring ADV is All Day Vape, which is what they prefer to vape throughout the day... I don't recall seeing any other somewhat unfamiliar abbreviations, hope that helps

1 points

by Kleivonenover 11 years ago

TFA = The Flavor Apprentice TPA = The Perfumers Apprentice (Same company as TFA) FA = FlavorArt Cap = Capella's LA = Lorann's FW = FlavorWest

There are others, but it's late and my brain isn't working. They are the companies each flavor used is from, for example, LA pomegranate is very different than TFA pomegranate.
