Best atomizer to use when constantly mixing DIY?
submitted over 11 years ago by Leg0z

I understand that this is very subjective. I currently have an MVP 2.0 and really like it with my protank 2 and mini. I have a Kayfun in the mail as well. I also recently purchased an IGO-L to quickly try out DIY mixes. The issue that I am having is that the taste on a dripping atomizer does not equal the taste once in a tank. Also, the nic level and throat hit are much harsher in a dripping atomizer.

It is a massive pain in the ass to try out a liquid in a protank, not like it, adjust the liquid, clean the protank out, rebuild the coil so I can taste the changes made in the liquid, and try the liquid again.

Is there a better way to do this/more convenient hardware for mixing that doesn't have the drastic taste jump between dripping atomizers and clearomizers?

you could rebuild a coil head as a microcoil on a 20ga syringe needle (i use 30ga kanthal). the beauty of the 20ga syringe needle is that 1 strand of peaches & creme cotton yarn fits through it perfectly. so you have your microcoil wicked with cotton. drip directly onto the coil head/cotton until it's saturated. leave the stem off and screw the base back into your empty protank. you are now in protank dripper mode. drip some juice, then when you're done pull the cotton rinse and dry the coil (no dry firing!) and throw in a new piece of cotton for your next flavor.

you could always get some 510 bridgeless dripping attys, it'll give you a pretty close idea of what your juice tastes like. I use them and find the flavor is pretty accurate, of course the flavor becomes more intense when you start to drip the same juice on a .3 ohm dual coil but at least you'll have an idea.

Just make a standard microcoil in your igo-l. 8 wraps of 28g kanthal should give you about 1.3-1.5 ohms. Also, make sure that your airhole lines up with the coil, that could explain the lack of flavor and harsh throat hit.

I'm surprised no one has said it yet.

Get an RDA and build a wickless coil. I haven't even built one myself but when I taste juices I have a normal single macro coil with no wick in it at all. Drip some drops right on the coil and boom, pure flavor. You only get one maybe two hits out of it but hey, you're just tasting right?

If you actually built a legit wickless coil (I have been meaning to, just haven't gotten around to it) You should get 5+ hits out of it.

Bridgeless Atomizer? Easy to quickly switch flavors, and the resistance is usually up around 2-ish

I have heard a lot about these. Any recommendations?

The two popular ones that I know about are Smoktech and Bauway. Madvapes sells the Smoktech 2 ohm one, but looks like they're out of stock right now.

I've never used one myself, but I keep hearing about them, and I'm almost curious enough to grab one just to see what all the fuss is about. To me, it looks like a cross between a dripper and a cartomizer.

Have you drilled out the top cap of your dripper?

You might want to get a kayfun it'll be closer to what you get off the dripper

This is just theory here, as I haven't tried to match that kind of flavor, but you could try building high resistance coils in your dripper? Dunno what you currently do, but that could help make the experience more similar. That and maybe over-stuff your coil a bit to slow down wicking (though don't do so much it burns)?

Since you have a kf in the mail, you can always just use that as a dripper. Keep the tank empty, set er up with your build and drip (inject wld be better) into the coil chamber?

what you mention with the Kayfun sounds reasonable. I would normally vape a 12 mg nice in a clearomizer, same thing for a kayfun or turn it down a notch?

Not the right person to ask on that haha, I've got a kayfun but only used it a couple times, and haven't messed with cleros for a while :/

When I got my Kayfun Lite I had to switch from 18mg to 12mg because the throat hit from my favorite juices was too much.

I think you may find that the Kayfun is similar enough to your Igo-L that you can go back to using the Igo for tasting. I think it is, anyway.

Use cotton in the Protank and soak that to taste it? You don't have to rebuild to change a wick.

Whenever I taste test I build a 1 ohm coil on the kf and hit it with just the chimney on, no tank.

I use a trident RBA with a nanocoil sitting on a small bed of cotton for testing, and while it makes for easy swapping (tested 20+ flavors in under 10 minutes), I agree the flavor and throat hit are wildly different than in a tank.

I'd go with the idea to rebuild a protank Atty w cotton wick (not that hard, RipTrippers has a great video on it), and drip on to it - there's a lovely (older) lady who made a video on Protank dripping. Advantage is that you get the Protank airflow, without having to fill a tank each time.

Good luck!
