New to diy juice. Nic levels.
submitted over 11 years ago by jinnstar

I'm researching my diy setup, with the goal of making 6mg, and 12mg strength juice for myself and my wife.
Should I pick up the 60mg or a lower concentration of Nicotine solution in order to make the math easier? Would I go through 60mg faster than 100mg? Or am I over thinking and thereby asking silly questions?

Proabably overthinking a bit. You could just use an online calculator for the math. I personally wouldn't want to go over 50mg nic just because of how dangerous it can be at higher percentages. You need a lot of stuff to safely work with 100 mg.

listen to this guy. 100mg juice is a pain in the butt to work with. Even 60mg is too high in my opinion.

50mg is doable. But I'd even suggest 36mg.... then you can mix with pretty much no worries.

Sure it costs more, but you're still way ahead of the game in terms of the cost of smoking or buying juices yourself.

Yes, you will go thru 60mg faster than 100mg. Get 100mg, use a calculator for mixing and you'll have no issues.

I checked out some of the online calcs, and I've started using an Android app called Vape, which includes a calculator. Also tried Red Dragon, a paid app, but it crashes.

I use Red Dragon. The developer is real nice, send him a message and he will fix you up

Thanks, I contacted the developer.

The maths is super simple, so just get whatever nicotine concentration is the best value (100mg seems to be the stuff generally).

Target Nicotine/Base Nicotine*Target Amount

e.g. You have 100mg base and want to make 30ml of 8mg juice:

8/100*30=2.4

So you need 2.4ml of 100mg nicotine base to make 30ml of 8mg juice.

Nice break down, thank you!

No probs.

100mg makes it easier/faster to work out in your head, but even if you decide to dilute it for safety reasons, it's all pretty simple maths.

I make 6mg and 12mg mixes using 60mg nic, and it definitely makes the math, and more importantly, the measuring easier. Also, less potent nic means less chance of hurting yourself with it.

For 10mls of ejuice, use 1ml of 60mg for 6mg, 2ml for 12mg.

I think the ease and peace of mind makes up for the coupla bucks you might save on getting the 100mg, and it'll last plenty long. 120 mls of 60mg nic will make half a liter of 12mg juice - about 16 30ml bottles.

The only case in which I'd consider 100mg stuff is if I was mixing 24 or 36mg juices - you need the stronger solution if you want more than 30 or 40 % VG in the final mix (or, you'd have to get vg-based nic, which I hear is less stable than the PG version.

Just my 2¢.

What do you mean by "less stable" with VG nic?

Ive seen in various sources online that a PG nic solution will store longer than VG solution- whether it is a significant difference for DIYers, who probably don't have a couple years' supply on hand, I don't know.

Here's one link with limited info on it: http://www.xtremevaping.com/What-is-the-storage-life-of-unflavored-Nicotine-Liquid_df_39.html

We used to use 12 and 6 in our household, I just started mixing 10 and 5 instead. Neither of us noticed any difference

i find 60mg nic makes making 6mg juice super easy (really any multiple of 6). you can go ahead and buy 100mg and mix it down to 60mg, that's what i do. 120ml of 100mg + 80ml of pg/vg = 200ml 60mg/ml nic base.

download an ejuice calculator and let it do the work for you. I have 48mg and it's honestly lasting me a long time! It only takes about a week to get more (usually) so you can always order more.
