Is it stupid to buy 2 gallons of VG for personal use?
submitted over 11 years ago by SeanMoore

I mean, Essential Depot will sell me 2 gallons for $45 shipped. That's ~~$2~~ $5 a quart.

That's cheap, I'm cheap... match made in heaven, right?

Thing is, will it go bad? Should I find another DIYer in the Denver metro to split this order with?

I mix at maxVG so I wouldn't be cutting with any PG besides what's in my WizardLabs nic and whatever flavoring I use.

Mix any extra with water for "personal lube"

After the vg sits for a year or so it gets real thin and watery and tastes horrible. Only buy as much as you can use within a few months. If you know someone with amazon prime you can get two day free shipping with essential depot which is basically like 50% off a quart lol

4 qts to a gallon. $5.625 a quart. One gallon is more than 3800ml. Unless your selling juice, 2 gallons is a bit much.

IIRC the shelf life is a year. It would probably last longer than that, but I wouldn't stockpile more than a years worth at a time. If you can split the order with a friend it would make more sense.

ok cool. I just got a quart from them on amazon along with some other stuff so I'm set for awhile. I'll hook up with a local and split a couple gallons soon, thanks.

I understand why many are saying it's a little on the overkill side and that it would last "forever", etc. but I guess it's not so stupid if you're like me and like to experiment... a lot.

If you experiment you ultimately end up wasting a lot or creating things you don't like. If you're like me, you will just throw them out and keep track of what didn't work out. Doing that, you go through ingredients and liquid a lot faster and 2 gallons does not represent "actual usage" but rather is part of "the process".

So no, I don't think it's stupid. I think it depends on what and how you use it! :-)

I'd be down to split a gallon in the future but I'm still working at my current supply. Pm me if you order in the future!

You can store it in the freezer and it will stay fresh for well over a year. I'd probably go through almost that much VG in a year; personal use.

[edit: actually, no, my estimate was way off. 7.5 litres... I wouldn't go through anywhere near that much in a year]

Buying in bulk is never stupid. I mean, the whole point of vaping is saving money, right? Sounds like you're saving some serious wallet fat there.

EDIT: You could try going in on it with some friends, if you have any that are also into ecigs and diy. Then you'd have less to try and keep fresh, while still getting a good deal.

I average 20-30ml a day vaping, so a gallon should last me 126 days(100%VG-30ml/day) to 237 days(80%VG-20ml/day). I bought a gallon a few months back, and based on rate of use, I'll need more at around the 6-7month mark.

Most of my juice is 80-85%VG, 1.2mg nic. I drip 8-12 drops a time into a nimbus clone, dual coil, 0.6ohm, usually at 4.5v.
