When buying Nic, should I buy PG or VG base...
submitted over 11 years ago by Arlock

So I'm finally taking the plunge after doing tons of research and I find myself blocked at a very simple question (I think).

Should I purchase my nic liquid in PG or VG base?

What are the pro and cons to each?

Help me experienced DIYers!

Seems like the answer is PG, thanks guys I appreciate the quick feedback!

Thanks

IMO, PG. Much easier to work with as it is less viscous. Unless you are going for 100% or max VG.

Agreed. I personally make max VG juice so I buy base in VG form. It is however a good deal more difficult to work with than PG base. If you're a 50/50 type person, by all means, get it in PG.

if you drip and like to make max vg juices, get vg

if not get pg, its easier to work with and you don't need to wait 30 mins to use it if you store it in the freezer

PG in my experience oxidizes much slower as well, so shelf life is longer for me. Also solids, like vanillin and malic acid will dissolve easily in PG, but not VG.

Whats the difference between PG And VG ?

Ive heard more vapor or more flavor. i am also buying the stuff as well. I heard 70/30 Pg/VG.

But Why do you have to have VG or PG why not just one or the other ?

What do they actually do ?

You could have only one or the other. PG is thinner and carries flavor better(easy to work with, heavier throat hit) while VG is thicker and produces more vape(significantly more challenging to work with, heavy on your coils too)

Mixing the two gives a nice balance between vape and taste.

What ratio do you want and what nic level? Good example I do 40/60, higher on VG if I was to make 18mg I cannot with PG if I was using 20-25% flavoring unless I use 100mg.

50/50 mix isn't bad (not to thick), but really depends on what your final juice will be. If you going to be higher in PG then get PG based (like 70/30 pg/vg) if your going for higher VG (like 70/30 vg/pg) go VG or 50/50. Try your recipes in a calculator using different nic solutions, it will show negative numbers if you don't have enough pg or vg.

To me VG was way too viscous and gummed everything up. I also think PG has no real taste in itself, which I prefer.

Mines vg but I wish it were pg because it's too viscous to use a syringe with it easily.

Get a 14 gauge needle

For what it's worth, these are what I use with my VG base. It makes things much easier. They however seem to be unavailable currently.

What's a luer lock? Is that just the way they hold to the syringe?

I just bought VG Base too. Since it is 100 mg of mic should i cut it with PG to make it easier to work with and if so would that effect the flavor much. I like max VG and 100% vg juices because i think my throat may be a little sensitive to PG

I usually go 20/80 pg/vg and right now I'm using 25/75 pg/vg nicotine. I'll probably go all VG next time though.
