submitted over 11 years ago by kegera1993

I just got a flavor batch from TFA. I got a flavor percentage list but vanilla custard isn't on the list. What percentage do you suggest

I always start at 10% with TFA flavors and adjust to taste. I have not tried Vanilla Custard, though.

Depends on if you want to cream a flavor or if you want it custardy 10% is a good custard taste 4-6% if you want to accent or pastry a flavor.

Is nobody else concerned about all these "custard" flavors?

I personally dislike them. Customers however love them.

I'm talking about the chemical composition of them, and how they are potentially poisonous.

EDIT: "*** contains both "Custard" ingredients (acetoin and acetyl propionyl) - "

I was concerned also after reading the warning from the tfa site and then doing some further research. I've also been worried about using "sterile cotton" as wicks since cotton's heat point is about 300F before it starts decaying as far the info I can find... Our liquids vaporize at a much higher temp than 300F.

That's why I am an L.L.C. And I warn customers of flavoring that can be harmful if used in liquids

No I'm not. You have to put it into perspective. The amounts in flavoring is parts per million of parts per million. You inhale waaaaaaaay more concentrated amounts of other things just by being in a city.

I made a mix with it. It's 8% Carmel Original and 8% vanilla custard. It's turned out pretty good so far.

How sweet is that? That sounds really sweet.

Its not that sweet. I dunno the exact percentages that I used but it's around 8 percent.

Also it's not steeped.. So it may become sweeter. It's fine for me right now, though.
