It's a lot of fear mongering going on by people who have know idea what they're reading. Typical human nature, I don't understand this, time to panic. It's the same shit we see in the media about chemicals in ecigs. The amount is miniscule, but it's present therefor we are all going to die in like.. 3 days.
Edit: Just to clarify, I would like to see actual science done on ecigs specifically, and put it in to context. 1 ppb doesn't mean much to the average person. I would like to see "The amount of X is found to pose no threat" or "X flavoring contains enough of X chemical to cause harm". Context. Please. Stop running around screaming with your hair on fire.
Majority of people who Vape either have smoked cigs, cigars or weed and are quitting. Analogs have about 5000 known carcinogens. Vaping could have diacetyl. This could be bad for you however is it as harmful as a real cigarette? Who knows?
All I know is since i traded smoking for vaping my health has improved. I am doing freaking Crossfit now. If you think people who Vape are a bit cultish you should check out a Crossfit gym. They really give me the stink eye when I Vape right before a WOD.
Here is my thought: don't use flavors w/diacetyl and you will be good. I think that the only understated thing in that discussion is that acetoin only proceeds to diacetyl during the process of making it -- based on very sensitive variables during the reaction, and the conversion is on the scale of PPM. This combined with the extreme dilution of the flavoring would make me think it falls withing acceptable OSHA or whatever standards. I would like to see the guys math redone with that in mind.
Either way, don't use a diacetyl flavoring and IMO you will be fine.
TPA's website has added new little blurbs on all flavours they sell that have even the slightest trace of "custard notes". Because Flavour Art also does a lot of testing of their flavours, I'm going to have to look into which may have custard notes just to ensure I'm not using them too frequently in my mixes. I'm not opposed to vaping these flavours once in a while, but I do really like that these two companies are staying honest and on top of things with testing.
Sadly, this is probably very true. Add to this that even though a flavor may not contain diacetyl, it may contain acetoin, which under the right circumstances, can become diacetyl.
Although I am against all of the proposed regulations that surround ecigs right now, I am very much in favor of precise lab testing of every single flavor that we currently use. Most of the arguments made against ecigs are easily dismissed, but the "we don't know what's in them" is quite valid. We know that the carriers (PG and VG), as well as nicotine, are relatively safe, but the flavors still leave a lot of questions that need to be answered.
It might be time to go unflavored...

This guy (edit2 "died" removed sentence modified slightly) got popcorn lung from microwaving popcorn too often. If inhaling 2x times a day out of a bag of steaming popcorn can give you this disease there is NO reason to be stove piping this stuff into your lungs with an e cig IMO.
