Search by flavor (stash) now available
submitted over 11 years ago by daathMixologist

Hey guys. As you know, I'm the creator of www.e-liquid-recipes.com

As some of you know, I've been working on a way to search by flavor - So that you can find recipes that contain specific flavors. My intention was to create an advanced search with auto complete, but I could not come up with a satisfactory presentation. Therefore I have now implemented a simple list with all the flavors from your flavor stash, and you can then check off the ones that must be included in the recipes. To use it, log in, and go to the front page. There is a link by the search button.

How about a way to filter out recipes with menthol or tobacco flavors. I hate that shit almost as much as I hate Asian porn and Facebook posts about the damn Superbowl. I honestly think world peace would be possible if there were filters for everything.

Interesting idea - Don't know why I hadn't thought of that.

This would be possible in a fashion right now, if your filters were text matches, like nothing that contains "menthol" or something like that. The ultimate would be to tag every flavor and recipe, and use filters on that...

I think I'll attack the first, easier, option to begin with. Or, rather - I'll put it on my to-do-list :)

Thanks!

Great work!!

I think you'd probably increase your recipe count by 200-300% overnight if you came up with an importer for 'eJuiceMeUp' and 'Recipe Calculator' files. Might take some logic to match up flavors if you want to get strict on the data quality, but I know for me, this is the biggest time suck, having to type in recipes all over again. If you do end up doing that, please set the default import to 'private recipe', so people can choose to publish or not. :)

Thanks :)

Not sure I want to grow the recipe count though, since I think 1100 public ones are a great deal to go through ;)

I have actually have been communicating with the author of eJuice Me Up, and he was kind enough to provide me with the format of the programs recipes. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but the plan is to write an importer and an exporter for eJMU.

Not only eJMU, but excel/CSV and possibly XML export too :)

I don't know "Recipe Calculator" - Do you have a link? I'd be happy to put an importer/exporter for that on my to-do-list too.

I do agree though, all imports would be marked private per default! :)

Thanks for you suggestions!

It's in the side-bar on the subrreddit page, it links to the ECF thread from the author.

Glad to see the EJMU author was helpful!

Got it. Thanks!

I see dot1ml is on the list there - Any idea how to get www.e-liquid-recipes.com on there as well?

Great! Good work!

If you're looking for another possible improvement, it would be good to see the ratings show how many people rated it. A 46 people gave 5 stars is a lot different than 1 person rating it 5 stars for what the info means :) Love your site!

Thanks so much!

Absolutely. The ratings are not very useful at the moment - You definitely need to see the amount of ratings. Also I need to figure out a better way of sorting by rating.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks so much for this! Is there anything we can do to give back to you?

Thanks, and you're welcome :)

If some of you just click a google ad once in a while, or if you feel you can spare enough for a small donation, I'll be very happy. Other than that, I'm just happy that people find the site useful! :)

You got it. I was hoping that there would be an option that would take all of my flavors (stash) and aggregate a complete set of recipes to make from them. Is there something like that on the site that I'm missing? Let me be more specific. Instead of there being an option for me to search for recipes by a specific flavor, it would take all of my flavors and say, "Hey, you have Strawberry (TFA), Honeydew (TFA), and Dragonfruit (TFA); here's a recipe that uses these" and in the same function it would say, "You have Chocolate Glazed Donut (CAP) and Coffee Double Clear (TFA); here's a recipe for that." Know what I mean?

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's a little bit more difficult, but definitely doable. It's also still on my list :)

I'm not sure if I've missed this but... is there a master list of flavors that I can click on to add flavors to my stash. Rather than having to type them in manually?

Yes, when you are logged in, you can access the flavor list: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/flavors - from there you can search and see details about the various flavors, and also add then to your stash.

Unfortunately there are a lot of duplicate flavors, due to the fact that I give people completely free rein to name flavors. Once in a while I do try and clean a bit of it up, for example renaming "Apple - Flavour Apprentice" to "Apple (TPA)" and so forth.

Still, even though there are lots of dupes, the detail pages are generally pretty useful!

Great work Lars, thanks for pointing that out. Let's turn this into the IMDB of DIY Flavouring.
