My hubby is obsessed with circus peanuts those gross orange colored puffy candies. I hate them last time I tried to eat one I gagged. Sooo he wants a circus peanut flavor I'm guessing it should be easy but looking for some input this is what I came up with any ideas? 7% banana 10% marshmallow 2% cotton candy
Wow, I must be the only person in this sub who likes these, too. Never thought of making them, though. I think your recipe may work, but not sure if a ripe banana or a candy one would work best. I have these flavors, I'll have to see what I can do to help you out. Although, I can say that Lorann's tutti frutti gives that almost powdery mouth feel, which I used to make (accidentally) a smarties flavor. The pressed sugar candy, not the chocolate one.
You're not alone. Now I want to figure this out lol. And to me the ripe banana flavor(la or tfa don't remember) is kinda candy-ish. But I think the texture of circus peanuts has a lot to do with the perceived taste.
I think I have a couple different bananas I know I have tasty puff, and flavorwest I'll have to did through the box to see what else maybe narrowing down which banana is the first step.
Made up a mix yesterday, turned out pretty good.
5% banana
8% marshmallow
5% tutti frutti
3% ethyl maltol/cotton candy
The banana was from health cabin, but any rope banana flavor should work. The tutti frutti and marshmallow are from Lorann's. I used the tf to try and add that grainy texture, and it did I but. I might tinge the banana down to 4% on this one and up the marshmallow 1-2%, but it turned out pretty good. A sweet cream was suggested to me as well to try, but I don't have any on hand.
I'm with you on the gag inducing qualities of the circus peanuts. My first reaction would be to find some styrofoam flavor, but I digress.
I think you might be a little high on the marshmallow, because to me "and taste is subjective" the circus peanuts don't carry the same undertone even though they're made as a marshmallow type product. I'd try it at 8% banana, 8% marshmallow, 3% cotton candy and adjust from there. If it comes out to "creamy" reduce the marshmallow because it can add a creamy mouthfeel if used too much.
Best of luck
Ouch. Makes my teeth hurt just thinking about those things. But I remember them as orange flavored.
Orange? Hmmm I don't want to buy a bag and see.... :(
My dad used to get these every now and then when I was a kid and I kinda liked having a few of them. Interesting texture. But I do remember them as orange flavored. Like bright orange flavored. That in-your-face citrus that would accumulate until it was painful on the taste buds to keep eating them. And if I happened to have a cavity at the time it would light up big-time. Lots of sugar.
On Wikipedia it says banana is also a common flavor but I don't recall ever trying those.
If I were going to take a shot at the orange versions, I'd probably start with TFA Orange Cream, then find some sharper orange/tangerine flavor (I haven't done much with orange) to add to that, and maybe some additional creaminess like a bit of Capella Vanilla Custard. More sweetener than I've ever used. And some citric acid. As I remember them they need to be really orange, really creamy (when they start breaking down), and almost painfully citrus -- all at the same time. I'd probably use a higher overall flavor percentage than anything else I mix just to replicate how I remember burning out on these after a few minutes. Like maybe he could vape it for 10 minutes and then have to put it down till tomorrow. :)
That's going from memory from a long time ago. If he prefers the banana versions, I wouldn't know but seems like your OP would be a good starting point and he can give you some feedback. It's nice of you to try and translate this to a juice for him.
I bought a bag of them last night the brand he likes. I'm still thinking about trying them. He works on the barges and doesn't get home until the day before his birthday in three weeks. So I was trying to make it as part of his gift. I'll update when I get the courage to eat one of these things lol
Aw gross D:
I will totally make and try any viable recipe that shows up. :(
Feel free to whip this up and let me know lol
That mix actually sounds pretty good.
What does "stale" taste like?
