How do you deal with the Thickness of Pure VG when measuring.
submitted almost 12 years ago by [deleted]

I'm doing hot water baths to get it to flow better. it's a pita because it's so thick.

I just take off the needle.

I stopped measuring for each bottle I made and prepared some in bulk. I liked a 75% PG/25% VG mix. So, I mixed three bottles of PG (300ml) with 1 VG (100ml). I did this by dumping them in a jug, no syringes needed. Then I poured them into bottles for storage. That make the liquid much thinner and easier to work with when it came to actually making eliquid.

I diy with 100% VG. So I don't get the PG mix to help.

You can get a specific vg drawing tube for syringes. Its very large gauge and works well. In the uk its named " Brian's" draw tube or something..

HERE is a link for a review of the needle I mentioned.

Seriously though, my arms are getting huge from pumping 200mls+ at a time of VG :D

For a small batch (5ml - 10ml), I mix in a 10ml syringe.

I start by taking the plunger out, plugging the tip (I have an wooden-handled metal awl that fits nicely), invert and then start adding ingredients, measuring using the graduations on the syringe.

I add VG first, then nicotine base, then flavours, then top it up to my desired amount with pg. I then put the plunger back in (compresses the air a bit), invert and unplug (pop!), put my finger over the end and shake it to mix. I then plunge the batch into a bottle, cap the bottle and shake it some more.

Sometimes I just leave the batch in the 10ml syringe, to steep and even to store. I ran into a deal on 10ml syringes, so I have lots of them.

This method avoids needing anything to measure (besides the syringe), produces a lot fewer vape-dishes, is quick and easy. No needles, no graduated cylinders or pipettes. 10ml syringes are easily washed and dried for the next batch.

When I used syringes I just made do with a 14 gauge needle. I found it still a bit slow even with that big-bore needle but it wasn't agonizing like, say, an 18 gauge. I've since switched to measuring by weight, so I dispense VG from a 120ml HDPE bottle with a yorker spout straight into the mixing bottle. I purchased spouts with no holes and drilled them out to an appropriate size for VG, PG, etc.

I've seen 10 and 12 gauge dispensing needles around, usually they're all-metal construction. Might be worth looking into if you're currently using 14 gauge.

this sounds like the path of least resistance :D

I keep my VG-based nic in the freezer so I pretty much have to use a hot water bath before I can measure it. For the 0mg VG I just pull the plunger out of the syringe and fill it from the top.

This is what I do too. I also take off the needle.

How do you plug the bottom? with your finger?

I use a cut down carto condom. Fits over a Luer fitting perfectly.

I also pre make my PG/VG Nic mix. I pour into a measure, a graduated cylinder.

Keep is simple. Just don't use a needle. Works beautifully and very, very fast.

When I fill a bottle without the syringe it tends to be too thick and chokes off the opening.

Use the syringe, just don't use the needle.

I keep mine in the freezer. When mixing time comes, I pull the plunger out, dump a glug into the syringe, reinsert the plunger, and flip it over. I squeeze the air out, then drop it into a coffee mug with some hot water. A few minutes later it's easy to squirt out.

Huh. Really? Are you storing it in the freezer or anything? I've never had an issue at all.

You can also dump the bottle in a water bath to thin the VG out.

No I store at room temp. I mean I can fill the syringe without a needle. But when I try to squirt it into the smaller bottle it chokes off and more runs down the side then goes in :D

i have a big pot with hottest temp water from the sink. too hot I can't keep my hand there. i put my vg/pg in there and just give it a couple minutes, uncap and just mix from there

This is really the best way to do it. I just put the plug in the sink and fill it up.

I just pour it straight into the bottle/beaker, by weight on a scale, as the first ingredient, so I can remove any if I over pour.
