Phoney Pearry update ... citric acid
submitted about 12 years ago by onions_can_be_sweetMixologist

I still don't know if it's right as I have still not tasted actual Honey Pearry...

I got some citric acid at the bulk food store (Lorann Citric Acid (Anhydrous Granular) 3.4 Oz. for $4.99). I mixed 1/4 teaspoon in 10ml of PG. I had to heat it to get it to dissolve.

I added a single drop to about 2ml of my Phoney Pearry #1, loaded it into a Kanger T2 with a newly built coil.

The citric acid punches it up quite a bit. Before the Phoney Pearry was pretty mellow (but still pretty tasty... I don't think steeping for a few days has had much effect). Now... it tastes somehow fresher, sharper. I like it a lot.

link to old Phoney Pearry thread.

BTW... the color of both of my Phoney Pearry's is perfectly clear, even after a few days of steeping. It also doesn't gunk up my coils, and can be vaped at high power.

This is my HP recipe. I think it's just about perfect, and easy as hell. 8% TPA Pear 8% TPA Honeydew 4% TPA Strawberry

I do like it at 10%, 10%, & 5% as well. I accelerate steeping with an ultrasonic cleaner at home, and at work I let it sit on a coffee warmer for a few hours. Once it starts turning yellowish, it's there. While it's pretty good fresh, it really gets rich after it's been steeped.

Side note: I only use Boston Round style dripper bottles. I feel as if the heat and pressure they're able to withstand makes the juice steep very nicely. I DO NOT recommend my steeping procedures with and LDPE or HDPE bottles.

edit: side note

Honestly your recipe is probably the closest, not to mention easiest. Thanks for sharing!

Props from the VAPING_ASSHOLE? I feel like some kind of minor celebrity... :)

I just made a batch of this. It has been months since I tried Honey Pearry, but this tastes just like my memories.

Thinking about adding just a hint of sour to see if that makes the flavors pop out a bit more. Not that this recipe isn't great, but even great things can be better!

Added maltic acid. It now tastes just like I remember, with bold flavors, yet it is a subtle mix. Here is my recipe.

8% TPA Pear 8% TPA Honeydew 4% TPA Strawberry 3 drops sour per 10mL

50/50 mix, at 12mg nicotine.

This stuff is the best juice I have made, and tastes just like Honey Pearry to me. Thanks 2easilyamused!

> Added maltic acid

Old post but did you mean Malic Acid? As in TPA sour (Malic Acid at a 20% dilution in PG)

I just ordered all the ingredients and made a batch. I think you cracked it. Even if this isn't exactly how TVC makes it I think you arrived at the same taste. Congrats!

My NF Pear and Apricot came in today. I'm pretty slammed at the moment but I'm hoping to give them a shot and work up another Phoney Peary recipe in the next couple of days. I still haven't tried the TPA Pear you are using, though I do have some. It smells like nail polish remover. Do you find it has to steep or it just mellows and dilutes even at 9%? The FW pear has a bit of that pungency even after diluting. That is another hint, Honey Peary is best fresh. It doesn't require a steep.

And yeah, sour/citric acid helps pop most fruit flavors! I haven't tried apple cider vinegar yet, that's on the todo list as well. I also really like sucralose my self, but fyi, TVC doesn't use any sweeteners.

Then again, I'm not really concerned with finding the exact mix for Honey Peary, just something pretty spot on and damned delicious. I'm really excited to try this NF Pear as it gets rave reviews.

I feel like I've nailed the honeydew aspect (4-6% NF Honeydew), I'm thinking the pear and a bit of apricot (which smells amazing) might sew it up. It is hard to judge the strawberry (and maybe apricot) background until the Pear topnote gets pinned down.

Did you talk to the other user about getting a bit of honey peary? I could probably send you a bit to drip test, I just have to find the bottle and see if there is any left.

We should probably also consolidate the last thread's recipes and notes in a post. I'll see if I can get to that tomorrow unless you want to do it. :P

I tried my Flavor Art Apricot on it's own... it's a very weak flavor, at 5% it's like it's not even there. At 15% I can barely taste apricot.

Anyhow, I will try a bit in my next Phoney Pearry attempt.

I haven't tried vinegar yet either... I have too much stuff! Too many flavors, sweeteners, my own extracts and not enough time! I can't possibly vape enough to try everything! Ack! First world juicer problems...

Yeah. Like I mentioned in the other thread, I did notice some malic acid.

I somehow missed that. That thread got big, it's partly why I started a new one.

Malic acid... hmmm, something else to try...

TFA sells it mixed. If you buy it in crystal form I'd suggest mixing it with PG @ 2 grams w/ 10 ml of PG.

You're spot on. I added some sour (3 drops per 10ml) in one of my last clone recipes and it is definitely there.

I just read the secret ingredient in Bobas is vinegar... I bet you anything that vinegar is the missing link!
