My first DIY that Wowed me, a Honey Pearry Clone
submitted about 12 years ago by longfellow110Mixologist

First off, I have never tried Honey Pearry. I have no idea how good it is and have nothing to compare my DIY to. After reading many reviews, I decided that I wanted to make my own version, and if it's not as good or slightly off, I wont know the difference.

I call it, Phony Pearry.

Here is what I used:

  • 9.0% Pear (TFA)
  • 4.5% HoneyDew (Fruit Express)
  • 1.5% Sweet Strawberry (Capella)

(I used 50/50 100mg/ml NIC and VG to make it 12mg)

Right after mixing it, I cured it in a cup of steamy hot water, let it get to room temp, and gave it a vape.

This stuff is delicious. If really Honey Pearry is this good (with minimal curing) then I have been missing out.

I've got a 30ml bottle of it sitting in my hot server rack curing as I type this.

Wow... Although you're all far off on the recipe. I'm flattered.

Not sure if serious, or trying to throw us off... Either way, good to see you in here Chef.

Entirely serious, no apricot, no coloring. HP is completely clear when mixed. Turns green over time. No capellas or loranne stuff. I'm not going to give up all my extract vendors or even a hint of the recipe.

The base flavors are laid out in the description. The balancers are what make our flavors so unique. Good luck!

Thanks for that Chef.

It sounds like Capella's Sweet Strawberry and TFA's Apricot both have an additive that is or resembles an additive that you use in HP.

Also, what do you mean by "balancer"? What is a balancer?

So, I don't know if this adds to the discussion but bear with me: This is most likely the bones but I think there is something in a small concentration that is missing. A few days ago someone mentioned that a vendor had duplicated HP and it had these three ingredients with another flavor that they wouldn't disclose. I've been messing around with my flavors and I really think I've found that missing flavor, TPA Apricot. I even added a drop to a carto tank of HP to see if it bumped up the missing, "what is that?"note I kept getting and it really did pronounce it more fully. Just an idea to float around. I can't wait to try this out in any case in my next flavor purchase, thanks for the share!

Very interesting. And I just happened to get a bottle of Flavor Art Apricot (aka FAAPRICOT lol).

lol, Faapricot - I think you have a goldmine on your hands - lotions for guys, you could have Fap-ricot, Fapple, Fapear etc. A goldmine I say!

Good to know

I read somewhere that the secret ingredient for bobas was vinegar. Somebody else mentioned that they had tried citric acid, was close but not quite there. I BET IT'S VINEGAR!

by louderandsadderabout 12 years ago

Interesting, I've been playing with this idea too. Have you used vinegar in your juices?

I haven't made any juices yet. Currently in research mode right now. Finding it hard to find the supplies in Canada.. So just waiting on that.

Alright guys, I'm gonna start working this one out with you too.

Longfellow, you're already pretty damn close. Here is a quick mix I did this afternoon:

  • FW Pear - 22%
  • NF Honeydew - 5%
  • Cap Sweet Strawberry - 4%

This came out very close (I have Honey Peary to test) but the Pear was off. It was too strong for one, but also the wrong flavor I think. I have some TFA pear to try out tonight (9% sounds a bit high though) and will let you know. It appears that everyone agrees that NF makes the best pear hand down btw, so I went ahead and ordered some along with some NF Apricot. When they come in I'll let you know how they are.

The NF Honeydew melon is SPOT ON. Excellent flavor and seems about right at 5%. It may need some adjustment after steeping though.

On a side note, the flavor profile and character of the Flavor West Pear reminds me a lot of of Black Pom. It kind of soars over the top towards the end. That isn't typical of Honey Peary but the Pomegranate in Black Pom plays the same way, if any one is interested.

I'll keep yall' updated. It should't take too much to lick this. I'm thinking NF Pear, perhaps some Apricot, and maybe some Sour/Smooth is going to have it 99% there or maybe even better. There is something in TVC base that gives all of their juice a round, fluffy, smooth sensation. I just got some smooth and wizard in so I'll give that a shot.

[Edit - oh, and the color is definitely off, it is clear. TFA Pear is the right color though so we'll see.]

I like you, you are my kinda tinkerer! Thanks so much for the share, working on Pom too.

by squiredabout 12 years agoMixologist

I like you too!

Please do make a thread on your black pom adventures. Even if it just to get the conversation started. :D

I'm in high season for my job and traveling constantly but that'll end here in a few weeks and I'm really looking forward to playing with y'all more.

I'd REALLY like to learn how to make something akin to Apple Bourbon Tobacco. I think I have a pretty good feel for black pom. I'll work it up in the next month.

I do hope the chef is watching us. If so, I hope he is flattered and takes great pride in having us explore different flavor profiles; balanced profiles.

I'm not trying to cut ties. I'll always order from the best. Unless he stops creating, I'll never stop ordering.

I learn something new with every complex flavor I taste and he is one if the very best. :)

Here here! He is the best I've tried. All these clones are certainly in homage to his greatness and from what I have personally witnessed of his kind nature as long as we keep our boundaries in DIY and keep ordering (WE WILL,) I think the waters are ok. My Black Pom is lacking true clone qualities but vapable and tasty. I will retry and post a new thread shortly. Safe travels.

Are you guys getting similar coloring? Because according to this pic, it does not appear that TVC uses artificial coloring: http://i.imgur.com/mN5UJZY.jpg

Zoom and enhance! Am I right, guys?

It appears from this pic that TVC uses flavorwest. Is that last elusive flavor possibly ecto cooler (by flavor west) b/c I see it sitting on the shelf...

Next logical question, would be what is in ecto cooler, right? According to some website it's a mixture of tangerine, orange and lemonade. And if I do recall, honey pearry does have a little bit of a malic acid bite that could come from the ecto cooler.

Maybe but another explanation for it being there that he has "schmeto schmooler" as a flavor.

1 points

by modawgabout 12 years ago

Which sounds a whole lot like ecto cooler...

I get about the same color, its a greenish yellow.

1 points

by modawgabout 12 years ago

Taking into account that you've never tried honey pearry, I'd say that the color is yellow.

1 points

by longfellow110about 12 years agoMixologist

Not sure about steeped or not, but I get a very similar color to the bottle in the left in this picture.

by onions_can_be_sweetabout 12 years agoMixologist

Both of mine are perfectly clear, even after steeping. Also they don't get dark in my Kanger T2 clearos, and I can vape them at high power.

by louderandsadderabout 12 years ago

Are you adding nic? My husbands HP with no nic does not color AT ALL and mine at 12 mg does.

2 points

by onions_can_be_sweetabout 12 years agoMixologist

Yes, I am making 12mg juice.

It's weird... I don't think I've ever had a juice that didn't color eventually. For reference, I am using MBV (FW) Honeydew, Capella Sweet Strawberry, and PFS Pear (from here).

Even funnier... my Phoney Pearry #2 uses MBV (FW) Strawberry and Lorann Pear. It also doesn't color. Also at 12mg.

Ahhhhh humble beginnings, we have grown so much since then. When we move we'll have a video walk through of the new lab and warehouse, and pics of the entire staff and facility. I can't wait to move!

I have 2 versions of Phoney Pearry steeping right now. But I'll have to wait for /r/4_night_rider to send me the real stuff to give an opinion as to just how phoney it is...

Slight adjustment in % from the original recipe to make just a 5ml batch.

Phoney Pearry #1
Total 5ml @ 12mg/ml, 50:50 16% flavor
VG 2.5ml
PG 1.1ml
100mg/ml nic base 100% PG 0.6ml (18 drops)
PFS Pear 9.3% (14 drops)
FW Honeydew 4.7% (7 drops)
Capella Sweet Strawberry 2% (3 drops)

Phoney Pearry #2
Total 5ml @ 12mg/ml, 50:50 16% flavor
VG 2.5ml
PG 1.1ml
100mg/ml nic base 100% PG 0.6ml (18 drops)
Lorann Pear 9.3% (14 drops)
FW Honeydew 4.7% (7 drops)
FW Strawberry 2% (3 drops)

I realize 2 more versions are possible with the flavors I have...

Edit: forgot nic base

Am I wrong in concluding that drop measurements are frowned upon? I converted to %...

I was just giving you a hard time! Yeah, drops are useless ;)

What is "PFS"?

by onions_can_be_sweetabout 12 years agoMixologist

Here is where I got it. I don't know from whence it comes, other than that.

I suppose emailing Canvape would be the obvious thing to do.

It's a very nice pear... very convincing.

I steeped both juices using the same method as /r/longfellow10... put them in very hot but not boiling water in a cup, let it cool to room temperature. I loaded up two of my RDAs with new coils for a good test. I got some ecowool... wow, that's nice stuff. My coils were a bit higher resistance than I will try for next time (these are actually my first handmade RDA coils, which is really no big deal as I've been making coils for my Kanger T2s for some time now).

Preliminary results...

PP#1... well, I don't know what it's supposed to taste like. It's very nice... tangy, fruity. The sweet strawberry really comes through, with the melon and pear in the background.

PP#2... the strawberry and pear are less pronounced, letting the melon come through a bit stronger. Not as tangy, a bit more mellow than #1.

I have to say, both have a very nice flavor. If I had bought these as pre-mixed juices I would not be disappointed. I think I like the Capella Sweet Strawberry better than the FW Strawberry on the first try, but really they are both quite nice. I really like that FW Honeydew Melon flavor too.

I haven't tried adding apricot yet. Maybe I'll hold off on that... too many flavors at once... I think I need to try these for a while first.

I will let them steep some more and try again.

So i've been vaping my clone as my ADV and it has only gotten better with time. I am still curious to know how it compares to the real thing though. Does anyone have any Honey Pearry I can trade some Phony Pearry for? I'd love to see what other people think of it.

2 points

by longfellow110about 12 years agoMixologist

I made up a second batch and steeped it and it is amazing. A bit better than before.

  • 8.0% Pear (TFA)
  • 4.5% HoneyDew (Fruit Express)
  • 2% Sweet Strawberry (Capella)
  • 1% Ethyl Maltol (TFA)

I still haven't tried the original, I guess I need to get around do doing that.

Has anyone tried marshmallow as the missing ingredient? Honey Peary definitely has kind of note there that I picked up. But who knows

Sounds delicious. I just acquired some Capella Sweet Strawberry, and it is nice by itself. I also have MBV Strawberry that I haven't tried yet. And I have 2 pears, PFS and Lorann. And MBV Honeydew Melon.

I will try your recipe in various configurations... but, of course, I won't know if I get it right, as I too have never tasted genuine Honey Pearry...

Honestly, I really don't follow flavor brands. I prefer to just wing it and see what comes out. Btw, I have some juice from my first coffee extract curing right next to my Phony Pearry. Thanks again for the info in the other post on how to do it.

You're welcome. You will thank me again once you try it ;)

Phoney Pearry, nice name. I have a tonne of flavors to try right now... it's eating into my battery-mod making time!

You're not far from me..... If you wanna try the real thing once yours is done, I'd happily send you a little sample if you'd send me some of the clone!

I've got about 1/3rd of a 30ml 50/50 Honey Pearry. :)

Give TFA (AKA Signature) honeydew a try. The stuff is even more concentrated then fruit express and to me it taste so much more realistic. I like really strong flavoring but I can't handle more than 1%-2%. For reference I use Capellas sweet strawberry at 15%.

2 points

by longfellow110about 12 years agoMixologist

Im just now realizing Signature is TFA

Yeah that one took me a while too. It's tricky because it's the only line that they don't call by name with the exception of the Chinese flavors that they call fruit and tobacco express.
