I've heard many of the cream flavors that vendors have have some unsafe elements...how can I eliminate/mitigate them.
I haven't started diy yet, but will soon
Custard and Butter notes are the ones that are/were often based on Diacetyl or Acetoin
Diacetyl has been linked with serious lung disease in industrial settings
TPA has a note about this issue and it clearly states on their flavourings when they are known to contain these compounds
Do any other manufacturers do the same warning? I'd like to stay as safe as possible, but I love cream based flavors...thanks for the info!
Any other flavors that I should be mindful of?
I would look for custard, cream, vanilla and buttery flavours that specifically do not include particularly Diacetyl, but also to err on the safe side do not contain Acetoin or Acetyl Propionyl, if a manufacturer doesn't mention these at all, I'd be suspicious
looks like EC blends is good to go
Just about all cream favors, or flavors with a custard note will contain some trace of Acetoin, TFA's Sweet Cream (as posted on Wizard's) is noted as such. I recall reading somewhere that .009 ppm in random batch testing. As an ex smoker of two packs a day, I don't feel concerned.
