Ok, after seeing the "one juice" post. What is your "one DIY recipe?"
submitted about 12 years ago by MineDoggerMixologist

What is the one DIY mix that you totally nailed and could vape forever after?

If you submit, please use percentages, include the ingredient brands (of the flavors at least if not the nic/PG/VG,) and any comments on variants or "problems" you had finding the right proportions. A description of flavor qualities is also welcome.

Here's my contribution:

Irish cream tobacco: (Recommended at 60%PG/40%VG, for richness and sweetness. All flavors TPA, all other ingredients sourced from WizardLabs.)

Irish cream: 6% Virginia fire cured tobacco: 3% M-Type tobacco: 2% Ethyl maltol: 2%

I just love the richness of this one and because the flavor isn't overpowering I don't get tired of it. Don't know if it tastes like the Irish cream pipe tobacco since I've never tried the real stuff, but I don't care, this is what I would hope it tasted like. If you like your vape sweeter just throw another 2-4% of the Irish cream into the mix. Sucralose doesn't seem to work for me, it just makes everything taste gnarly.

10% TFA RY4, 18mg 50/50

It's simple but I just keep going back to it because it's so good. Even better at subohms.

Edit: I should add that it NEEDS at least 1 week of steeping or a hot water bath. Even better 4 weeks in.

My Olde Fashioned Root Beer is a crowd pleaser, and has taken several batches to get where it is today.

9ml: 18mg 50/50

.5ml: LorAnn Sassafras

.3ml: LorAnn Horehound

.2ml: LorAnn Vanilla

5 drops: FlavourArt Whipped Cream

8 drops: FlavourArt Sweetener

Tastes much like the "Rootbeer Barrel" candies, and is best not steeped for too long. It's been an ADV since I began working on it.

My ADV is a Vanilla/Menthol mishmash. I mix up about 25ml base knowing I'm going to add about 5ml flavorings. To 25ml base I add 3ml Vanilla Swirl(TFA), 1ml 10% menthol, 1ml wintergreen(TFA), 0.5ml Ethyl Maltol, and 0.5 Sweetener (sucralose). It's quick, it's easy, and it's tasty right away, but letting it sit for about a week really takes it up a notch.

50/50 PG/VG 30mg/ml

Add 10% TFA M-Type Tobacco, 5% TFA Vanilla and 2.5% TFA Bavarian Creme

On occasion I might add another 2.5% of Cheesecake or Brown Sugar flavorings

FInal mix is in the 24 mg/ml give or take a little

I work in VG so this might be overflavored a bit if you're making a PG-heavy joose, but here goes - I guess it's kind of a blueberry danish ice:

  • 20% LA Natural Blueberry
  • 10% LA Cheesecake
  • 5% LA Cinnamon Roll
  • 5% LA Cotton Candy (or any other 10% EM mix)
  • 4% Koolada
  • 1% Lemon juice

LA natural flavors are half-strength and Natural Blueberry is VG-based. If you made this with straight PG it'd be 80/20; if you make it with VG as I do it's 80/20 the other way ;-)

Loving the recipes here- question- is there a megathread for TPA recipes? Or perhaps a online spreadsheet? TPA is really the only decent flavours I can get down here in Australia :/

My recipes- all TFA 80pg/20 6mg

Kook Juice

  • Peach	5

  • Ethyl Maltol	1

  • Koolada	0.5

Not aware of a TPA exclusive thread. I'm kind of surprised that there isn't much action on the DIY sub at all... I've seen some stuff on ECF that focuses on TPA flavors, (most notably ScubaBatDan who apparrently had some exchanges with them to help them accomodate the DIY vaper market better,) but its kind of all over the place. It would be nice to have a consolodated thread for juice recipes for TPA, (and others,) on Reddit. Even if its just collections of links to other sites.

Sounds tasty. I'm noticing a lot of people are using over 20% flavoring. I like a flavorful juice but I worry a bit about overdoing it. Not so much because of health concerns with using high flavoring content but because I feel like I'll desensitize my taste buds and/or become a flavor huffing maniac, (kind of like when I eat a whole bag of flavor blasted goldfish in one sitting.) Do you do most of your flavors over 20%? Tobacco flavors excluded, those flavors are super strong.

I do mix most of my juice with at or around 20% and honestly I don't think I see a dampening in my tastebuds or anything at all. The one thing that my girlfriend (non-vapor) does mention is that the smell of the juice does linger around longer.

I haven't tried or made any tobacco flavors so I can't really speak to that one.

Cool. I've found that the tobaccos can be quite good, but they're much more concentrated than most other flavors. I've been using around 10 to 12% for most flavors, but the tobaccos I've tried need to be kept under 3-4% or they will taste like you just got sprayed in the face by some kind of mutant skunk.

Not trying to jack the thread, but what vendor do you like the best for your bases/flavors?

2 points

by MineDoggerabout 12 years agoMixologist

That's one of the reasons I started this thread, to see who likes what brands. So far I've only used Wizardlabs, TPA and Capella's. TPA seems kind of hit and miss, I like their Absinthe, Blueberry wild, Bavarian cream, (as a flavor booster, not standalone,) Grape jolly rancher, Virginia fire cured tobacco, M-Type tobacco, Irish cream and the NY Cheesecake isn't bad, but I'm really kind of hating their Almond amaretto, Coffee clear, Caramel cappucino and Black cherry (although I may just not have found the right proportion with some of these.) I've only tried Capella's vanilla custard, but that one is pretty darn good, and seems to have a more forgiving range than TPA as far as mixing juice goes. I do plan on trying out Loranne's, Flavorart and possibly Flavor west in the near future.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for. The only vendor I've seen is wizard labs, and wanted some addt'l flavors to look at.

What brand pg/vg would you recommend?

2 points

by MineDoggerabout 12 years agoMixologist

WIzardlabs seems ok, but I think next time I order some bases and flavorings I may go with Essential Depot for my PG and VG and I may try RTS vapes or Vapology for nic. Capella's has their own site and I think Ecigexpress has nic, PG/VG and flavorings from about four different makers, only reason I haven't ordered from them is they don't take my janky credit card....

When you say Wizardlabs - my understanding was that WL just resold The Flavor Apprentice and Lorann Oils (marked as TFA and LA respectively). Not sure that they have their own 'brand'

by MineDoggerabout 12 years agoMixologist

You are correct sir. They resell TPA and LA flavors in (I believe,) 8ml vials. The PG, VG and nicotine is their "brand," but of course is probably sourced from a Haliburton subsidiary or something terrifying. Not saying their products aren't good, just that the PG is a petroleum product and the nicotine is a tobacco extract so big oil and big tobacco probably have a hand in the process somewhere.

How much caramel cappucino are you using? That stuff is really strong, try it at 1 drop in 10ml of liquid.

1 points

by MineDoggerabout 12 years agoMixologist

Yeah, I've tried it at ultra low levels (like 0.2%,) and it will disappear before it tastes right. Although I've found it to be tolerable at about 0.7% if you've got something else in the mix. The real offender is the coffee clear. That shite is bloody awful at any amount. Do you have a favorite coffee? And do you really dig the C.Cappucino, or are you just "making do" with it? It could just be that I have "type-b" tastebuds or something, I don't get a sweetening effect from EM or sucralose either. Its kind of aggravating.

Banana Pudding: 10% LA banana Cream 3% TFA cinnamon sugar cookie (Sweetened with sucralose)

Lime Cream sickle: 10% TFA Key Lime 10% TFA Vanilla Swirl (Sweetened with sucralose)

Blackberry Lemonade: 5% Flavors Express (ecigexpress flavorings) Lemon 5% TFA blackberry (No sweetner needed)

The rest of my ADV's are single flavor vapes. These are the ones I like the most with percentages:

LA watermelon @15%

Capella's Blue Berry @ 15%

Capella's Sweet strawberry @ 15%

TFA French vanilla @ 20%
