OK so I originally posted this in the ECR earlier (my bad) and was getting down votes for unknown reasons. So I wanted to give it a try on this sub.
Here is the story/theory
Warning: I am bored at work and I have been thinking a lot about this today, maybe a little too much.
I have been vaping Boba's today and last night with my A7/Reo setup. I've always been able to better fine tune my flavors on RBA's. Probably just better flavor production than a 510 atty I guess. Anyway, I always tasted a spicey tobacco/graham cracker/coconut flavor from Boba's and tried to remake it but never could quite get it. I've heard people say that it taste like raisins, graham crackers, cinnamon, cola, honey, molasses, captain black pipe tobacco flavor, marshmallow, even lemon, etc. The list goes on and on as I'm sure you know.
Today I think I finally nailed what i'm tasting (I'm probably wrong once again) but I distinctly taste gingerbread and coconut. Before you call me crazy hear me out at least.
Obviously there is a mystery here. I think the mystery is that Ben created a flavor illusion (for lack of a better word). There are two differing culinary standards mixing together and confusing our nose and tongue. The spices that we associate with coconut/tropical flavors and gingerbread are largely the same but those two foods/genres are not linked in in any way for us mentally. Two totally different worlds.
Coconut and the spices you find in gingerbread are staples of tropical flavors. Allspice, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla all play a part in tropical drinks and foods. They are also the primary flavors in gingerbread along with brown sugar/molasses, vanilla, and cocoa in some cases. I think Ben is a genius and what he did was purposefully take advantage of the duality of that set of flavors and present them in both lights at once. He always said it was so simple and if I am right then yeah it is but sometimes simple can be really hard. If you cook often then you know what I mean.
Anyway I want to try it out and I'll report back if/when I do. Does anyone have suggestions for good gingerbread/coconut flavors?
EDIT: I need some help from the community on this one. Obviously BB doesn't have any PG in it and I cannot find gingerbread flavors that don't have any PG in them. I want to find the exact flavors because we all know how flavors can differ from vendor to vendor. The more I read about BB and the more I vape it the more I think i'm on the right track.
EDIT2: A little progress on finding the right BB flavors. I found this Gingerbread Flavor from Natures Flavors. The good thing is that there are VERY limited options as far as non PG flavors are concerned. I'm confident that if Ben is using Gingerbread in BB that this would be the only option. I've been searching on and off for the last couple of days and this is the only option I have found so far.
EDIT3: Dear diary my quest for a DIY Boba's Bounty has hit yet another cock block. The gingerbread flavor from natures flavors finally hit my mailbox today. I was so sure this was the main flavoring in boba's bounty, I would have bet money on it. Sadly it is purfumey as hell in it's current state mixed at 5% flavor with 5% EM and 90% VG. The coconut flavor I bought from the same vendor smells exactly like suntan lotion. This is not good. I hope I can dilute it down enough to be able to vape it or else this has been a huge waste of time and resources. DAMN YOU ELUSIVE BOBA'S!!!! YOU WIN AGAIN!!!!
capella graham cracker is fantastically close. I mix this with a seedman's captain black and a few other bits.
Never tried any of Seedman's stuff. What percentages do you usually use with them?
I got some gingerbread from MtBaker's. Don't really like it - I think one problem, IIRC is that ginger flavour is an oil so the vape-friendly version is going to be an artificial one. Could just be my palate though.
Gingerbread from mbv taste vaguely like vomit. Not saying that to be mean, just sayin - steer clear! lol.
Yes - that's exactly it. I'm surprised how quickly it got here from the states though - must be projectile vomit.
I ordered some ginger from them too but I haven't been brave enough to try it yet. Their banana nut bread, on the other hand, is very nice.
MtBaker's is probably using TFA gingerbread. I've heard bad things about it. I think I've narrowed down my search to either Capellas or Flavor west. Only problem is that they both use PG as a carrier and as we know BB has no PG. So I may never find the exact flavorings unless he is mixing his own gingerbread from scratch.
I really don't think it's coconut. I've tried flavors which contained, unbeknownst to me, coconut flavor and I'd always immediately known it was coconut by the reaction on my tongue/mouth. I vaped BB for a while and never had a hint of that. My guess to add to the mix of speculation is honey.
I can taste the coconut for sure. In fact I know exactly what coconut flavoring he is using. Coconut candy from TFA. This used to be my ADV for a while and I can pick it out of a crowd anytime. I used to mix it with Fruit Express chocolate and Capellas graham cracker. So freaking good, but clogs atty's/cartos.
AFAIK companies can simply not state that there's PG in their liquid, especially if its part of the "flavor" component of the product. In reality if the juice is say, 20% flavoring, some of that flavoring could be alcohol based, some could be PG based, but the remaining 80% of the solution is VG. I'm sure if you had a PG allergy they would verify for you that it is indeed 0% PG, including flavorings. Also, you never know, he could possibly be getting a custom blended version in alcohol or VG or both, depending on the solubility of the molecules .
Mix up your flavoring separate then add it to your nic base at about 15-20%
